- Firstly wash and soak all the dals together for minimum 40 minutes.
- Meanwhile, knead A little tight wheat flour dough by adding carrom seeds and salt.
- Now make round balls of equal size and keep for roasting on rural stove chulah or baati making box on the gas stove as shown in the pic below on lowest flame.
- Cover this box and let the balls cook. Keep turning the sides of the balls after every few minutes for even and proper cooking.
- Now take A deep thick vessel put the soaked daals and 3-4 glasses of water and start cooking daal on high flame. Traditionally pressure cooker is not used. Let it cook for 20- 25 minutes until all lentils are cooked well.
- Meanwhile, keep checking the balls / baati. It wl take 25-30 minutes for the balls to be cooked properly. Now take a pan for tadka. Put oil add asafoetida, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and smashed garlic cloves. Cook for few seconds on low flame and then put it in the cooked daal and mix well. Now put the daal again on low flame and let it simmer for few minutes so that the spices blend well.
